Hispanic Heritage
Have you ever wondered why your city is called Corpus Christi? Why is Mexican food so popular? Who invented the tortilla? Why are piñatas used at celebrations? Learning about the unique Hispanic Heritage in the area where you live will help you understand the answers to these questions.
With a partner, you will create a scrapbook about Hispanic Heritage. Your scrapbook will include the following items:
Important facts about Hispanic Americans.Explanation of Hispanic influence in one area of American culture.
Contributions of two Hispanic leaders to our American culture.
History of one Hispanic celebration.
Description of the origin of some Hispanic food.
Interview of someone you know that has Hispanic ancestry.
Create a picture on the computer about Hispanic Heritage in your home, school, or community.
Give a one minute oral presentation of your scrapbook.
Click on the buttons to search the web for information to include in your scrapbook.
Important Facts About Hispanic Americans
1. Click on "Important Facts". Make a copy and use the Resources section to complete the page.2. Describe one area of American culture that has Hispanic influence. Click on "Areas of Hispanic Influences", and use the Resources section to complete the information.
3. Explain in writing what two Famous Hispanic Leaders have done for Corpus Christi, Texas, or the United States.
4. Choose one of the Hispanic Celebrations and detail the history of the event.
5. Pick one of the Popular Hispanic Foods and write its origin (where did it come from?).
6. Click on Interview Form. Make a copy and use it to help you get important information about the person that you choose to interview. Remember the person must be of Hispanic ancestry (Mexican, Spanish, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South American, Central American, and so on).
7. In Appleworks "Paint" or any other computer paint program, create a picture about Hispanic heritage in your home, school, or community. Think about food, music, dance, religion, language, traditions, celebrations, and clothes.
8. Put all of the items (#1-#7) in order that you have completed in an attractive cover to complete your Hispanic Heritage scrapbook.
9. Practice and give your oral presentation, using all the information that you have gathered in your scrapbook.
10. Remember to work cooperatively with your partner. Share responsibilities and do your best!
A rubric will be used by your teacher to grade your project. A good evaluation will depend on the following:

Learning about the Hispanic Heritage in the community where your live will help you to have a greater appreciation for the unique blend of cultures and traditions that are all around you. Perhaps your scrapbook of information will help you develop a life long interest in Hispanic Heritage.
