Holocaust National Day of Remembrance Ceremony Honors Children Who Died in Concentration Camps

April 30, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi students, instructors, and invited guests read names and ages of children who died in World War II concentration camps during Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s “Holocaust National Day of Remembrance” ceremony on Wednesday, April 18, in the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza.

The commemoration co-sponsored the College of Liberal Arts, students in the Honors Program genocide course, and the Jewish Community Council marks the 69th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in Nazi occupied Poland against the transportation of prisoners to the infamous Treblinka extermination camp. Following the failed revolt, approximately 850,000 men, women, and children were killed at Treblinka, including more than 800,000 Jews and an undetermined number of Romanians.
