University Graduate Teaching Assistant Romeo Garcia Receives NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Romeo Garcia, a graduate teaching assistant at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has been selected as a recipient of the 2012 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award. He will be presented with the award during a summer leadership development meeting Thursday, July 12, through Sunday, July 15, in St. Louis, Mo.

Garcia, a consultant for the University’s CASA Writing Center and a composition instructor for the First-Year Learning Communities, received the award for his essay on literacy and being an educator of literacy at the University. Garcia will graduate in May 2012 with a Master of Arts in English.
