Chenaux Honored at Retirement Reception for 36 Years of Service

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Eliot Chenaux, vice president for Student Affairs, was honored for nearly 36 years of service and dedication to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi during a retirement reception held May 16 in the University Center commons.  Chenaux will retire on May 31, 2012.

The campus community and others attended the reception hosted by University President Flavius Killebrew. Special guests included state Rep. Todd Hunter and Dr. Robert R. Furgason, University president from 1990-2004. During the program, Chenaux was joined on stage by his family and presented with a rocking chair. 

Chenaux, a native of Puerto Rico, joined the faculty at what was then Texas A&I University-Corpus Christi in 1976 as an assistant professor of Spanish. He became dean of students in 1991, and for the last 13 years, has served as vice president for Student Affairs.

Chenaux and his wife, Merita, established the Dr. Eliot and Merita Chenaux Endowed Scholarship. During the program, President’s Cabinet members honored the couple with a $1,000 donation toward the scholarship.
