Islanders Gather for GenTX Photo to Support Higher Education

GenTX 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A crowd of nearly 100 Islanders showed their school spirit and support for higher education by wearing their Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi T-shirts for today’s (Friday, May 4) GenTX Day campus photo.

The photo, which included faculty, staff, and students celebrated Mayor Joe Adame’s proclamation of this day as GenTX Day for the city. On this day, Mayor Adame encouraged those in the community to wear their favorite college T-shirt and University colors.

In helping students fulfill their dreams, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will award diplomas to nearly 1,000 students, the University’s largest graduating class-to-date, during two spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 12, at the American Bank Center. The first two graduates from the mechanical engineering program will also share this in special day.

GenTX Day is part of Generation TX, a statewide initiative supported by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board focused on building a college-going culture across the state.  The Coastal Bend Partners for College and Career Readiness P-16 Council encouraged Coastal Bend schools, businesses, and communities to join the rest of the state on May 4 in celebrating Generation Texas (Gen TX) Day. Communities across the state showed their support for local students and encouraged them to continue their educations beyond high school by wearing a college T-shirt.
