Hundreds Celebrate Holiday Season at Annual Campus Lighting

December 05, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and children and their parents gathered in the Performing Arts Center Plaza for the annual Islander Lights celebration on November 30.

University President Flavius Killebrew and First Lady Kathy Killebrew threw the switch to illuminate a giant holiday tree and campus buildings along Ocean Drive in Islander blue, green, and white lights.

Leading up to the annual holiday lighting, guests enjoyed an array of family activities including a guest appearance from Santa, an Islander Lights Fun Run and Walk around the University, giant inflatable castles, entertainment from the Islanders Dance Team, music, games, and refreshments.

Before the switch was flipped, Dr. Killebrew presented a $403 check to the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” toy drive to provide Christmas presents to less fortunate children. During the event, new unwrapped toys were collected for the toy drive. Before the event, monetary donations were collected to contribute to the check presentation.

Immediately following the Islander Lights Celebration, a Holiday Gala Concert featuring students and faculty was held in the Performing Arts Center.
