University Graduate Accepted Into Doctorate Program in Toxicology

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Natividad “Robert” Fuentes, a Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi graduate who received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in August, has been accepted into the Texas A&M University-College Station “Bridge to the Doctorate (BTD)” Research Program. 

Fuentes will be awarded a $30,000 annual stipend for two years, while he earns his Doctorate in Toxicology. Fuentes is the second Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) student to be accepted into the BTD program.

LSAMP is a National Science Foundation (NSF) program designed to foster achievement in minority students seeking degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

While attending Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Fuentes’ main research focused on implementing DNA sequencing technologies to develop stress markers for seagrass.  In the BTD program, Fuentes will focus on cellular and molecular toxicology pertaining to the impact of diet on the colon.
