CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dozens of Islanders gathered on the University Center, East Lawn for “Wild and Wacky Wednesday” held March 6, where several University Organizations set up information tables to promote health and safety to kick off Spring Break.

“We wanted to provide the students with tips on how they can have a safe spring break,” said Lily Gonzales, Assistant Director of Student Activities. “The activities serve as reminder right before spring break to make them think about their actions.”

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Police Officers also participated in the event to help reduce the percentage of texting and drunk driving next week. The officers set up a small driving course with traffic cones and provided students the opportunity to wear beer goggles. Wearing the beer goggles, students drove small bicycles to experience the dangers of intoxicated driving.

The event, sponsored by Campus Activities Board and Recreational Sports, also included musical entertainment from New York hip-hop violinist, Svet.

Nearing the conclusion of the event, senior marketing major Carl Atteberry led the student body in the University Center Commons to a “Harlem Shake” tribute.

“At the time that we decided to do this, there was no ‘Harlem Shake’ video from Texas,” said Atteberry. “We really just wanted to promote our school.”
