During the soiree, the Miller High School Mask decorating contest was held in which ball guests voted for their favorite masks. The masks were made of paper maché, and the students added items such as paper, lace, feathers, paper clips, and paint to decorate them.  In all, 46 high school students competed for cash prizes.

The top three winners were first place ($300) – Soledad Castro, 16; second place ($200) – Christopher Pena, 17, Tamarah Vasquez, 17, and Crystal Romero, 17; and third place ($100) – Michael Hill, 14, Xavier Almaguer, 13, Lorissa Valdez, 13, and Cristina Olvera, 16.

That same evening, the crowd voted for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students who entertained during the event. The students were led by J. Don Luna, Professor and Chair for the Department of Theatre.

Students receiving the top scholarships were Alexandra Simons ($1,000) and Bianca Hooi ($500). Other students who received $100 scholarships were Aaron Cammack, Leah Cordova, Jamie Goodman, Jonathan Mattick, Tanya Monroy Jimenez, and Ian Williams.
