CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Mayor of Corpus Christi Nelda Martinez read a Proclamation Tuesday, April 9, during a City Council meeting to designate Sunday, April 7, through Sunday, April 14, the “National Days of Remembrance.”

The Proclamation by the City of Corpus Christi to honor victims of the Holocaust sets the week aside as a time to reflect on the need for respect of all peoples regardless of race, ethnicity, or national reasons.

Mayor Martinez recognized students for their efforts in organizing a “Holocaust Day of Remembrance” at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday, April 8. Martinez was among several featured speakers during the ceremony, sponsored by the Jewish Community Center.

The remembrance was attended by students and local community members and celebrated the lives of the victims, survivors, and liberators involved in the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945.
