Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Home to Three National Leaders in Counseling

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Three national leaders in counseling and the graduate training of counselors reside at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

These leaders are:

  • Dr. Robert L. Smith, Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, is President –Elect of the American Counseling Association (ACA). The ACA consists of 55,000 members and is the largest professional association in counseling worldwide.
  • Dr. Marvarene Oliver, Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, is President-Elect of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The AAMFT has 25,000 members and is one of the leading marriage and family professional organizations worldwide.
  •  Dr. Richard Balkin, Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, is the Editor of the flagship journal of the ACA. The Journal of Counseling and Development is one of the highest-rated journals in the field of Counseling and Human Development.
