CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The College of Science and Engineering presented its Distinguished Speaker Series featuring Dr. Eugene Turner on Friday, March 29,  in the Harte Research Institute.

Turner, Shell Endowed Chair of Oceanography at Louisiana State University, presented the seminar, “Salt Marshes: Adventures in Science and Policy along the Coast.”

“Salt marshes and coastal wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on the planet and play a major role in many things that we care about, such as fisheries habitat, carbon sequestration and storm surge protection,” said Dr. Michael Wetz, Assistant Professor of Marine Biology at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  “Dr. Turner's research is highly relevant for the management and protection of these ecosystems in the face of the many environmental changes affecting the coastal zone.”

Turner has received numerous prestigious awards for his research on the ecology of the coastal zone.
