CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the Innovation Academy for Engineering, Environmental & Marine Science at Foy H. Moody High School have signed an agreement to further develop and strengthen the pipeline of students entering college programs and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“This is one of many educational partnerships in the Coastal Bend that the University is proud to create,” said University President Dr. Flavius Killebrew. “We see it as part of our mission to harness a passion for these in-demand fields in order to help high school students transition into a college career and eventually succeed in the workforce.”

Dr. John Fernandez, Associate Director of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, coordinated the STEM Partnership Agreement on behalf of the University.

“We’ve worked with high school students in the area to prepare for state and national competitions,” said Dr. Fernandez. “This partnership simply highlights our dedication to programs that open highly-skilled careers for students in our area.”

The secondary/post-secondary partnership agreement is intended to outline activities that will increase the number of Innovation Academy graduates who apply to and are accepted into Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

This agreement is comprised of five components. Those include:

  • Summer STEM bridge programs hosted at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
  • STEM-related competitions hosted at the University
  • Faculty and graduate student mentors provided by the University
  • College visits to the University’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences
  • Participation in research program outreach efforts
