CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Larry McKinney, Executive Director of the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will be featured as a distinguished speaker during Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW), June 4-6, in Washington D.C. at the Knight Conference Center.

McKinney will speak June 5 at 11 a.m., and will be discussing the effects of human interaction and natural forces confronting today’s Gulf Coast and Arctic Communities. McKinney will also address the long term impacts of the 2010 BP Deep-water Horizon oil spill.

CHOW is hosted by the Nation Marine Sanctuary Foundation, a private, non-profit organization created to assist with education and outreach programs, whose mission is to preserve and protect our nation’s seas.  For over a decade, CHOW has provided marine professionals, government officials, and ocean enthusiasts with unique venues to network with colleagues, advance policy goals, and mingle with ocean champions.

McKinney, a Texas A&M University Graduate, was named Executive Director of the Harte Research Institute in 2008, and since, has spoken at conferences including the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) Conference regarding his research, and was recently been published in the Texas Monthly.
