CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Corpus has recently been recognized by The Online College Database as one of the 33 Most Popular U.S. Colleges for Hispanic Students. The University was recognized for its tremendous support of these undergraduate and graduate students and their families.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was ranked 11th in the state and 25th on the national list, with 43 percent of its student body, nearly 4,500 students, being of Hispanic descent in fall 2012.

“As a Hispanic-serving, doctoral-granting institution, our mission is to ensure the continued success of our Hispanic students,” said University President Flavius Killebrew. “This recognition confirms our commitment to our students through educational tools, opportunities, and promising new programs that will help them reach their academic goals.”

The University offers the Title V-STEM Outreach, Access, and Retention Program, which supports Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution by closing the educational gaps in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. In addition, the McNair Scholars Program prepares low-income, first-generation college students and underrepresented groups for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities including STEM research projects.

Recently, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was ranked among the Top 100 Colleges for Hispanics by the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine. The Island University ranked 15th in the state and 59th in the nation among four-year colleges and universities. In addition, the University has been recognized by the Peace Corps as one of the top 10 volunteer-producing Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in the nation for 2013.

In May, the College Database recognized the Island University as a top Texas college for return on investment; providing high-quality education at an affordable price.
