Island University Students Create App to Track Study Sessions

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi computer science students have created an app for one of the University’s academic programs. The Title V-STEM Outreach, Access, and Retention Program (SOAR) provides assistance to students in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields of study.

The app provides students with an up-to-date list of study sessions offered during each semester by the SOAR Program. It also allows students to select courses they are enrolled in, find the leader holding the study session, and even maps the location of the study session.

“The SOAR SI app is an invaluable tool for students to keep track of study sessions, leaders, and locations,” said Leslee Basse, Director of SOAR. “Our University’s SOAR Program is one of the first Supplemental Instruction programs to offer a smartphone app. With technology rapidly advancing, this app will allow information to be readily available to students."

The new interactive app was created by the University’s iCORE (Innovation in Computing Research) Labs.

“Students developed this product with their peers in mind,” said Dr. Ahmed Mahdy, Director of iCORE. “The app will provide students with a user-friendly experience where they can easily navigate through the program and make their selection.”

The SOAR SI app is available on both Android and Apple products under the search title “SOAR SI.” Learn more about the app following the links below:
