AUSTIN, Texas – Representatives of the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi recently participated in the 2013 annual meeting of the Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network (TCOON) at the Texas General Land Office in Austin, Texas, on July 18.

TCOON is a cooperative project among the CBI, Texas General Land Office, Texas Water Development Board, United States Army Corps of Engineers-Galveston District, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ongoing advances in research, data collection, station improvements, stakeholder needs, and the accomplishments of the network over the past year. TCOON’s successes included the installation of five new stations expanding the TCOON to 30 real-time data collection systems, development of several geo-referenced mobile apps utilizing TCOON data, and facilitating its access, and improved and enhanced TCOON data management tools. In addition, TCOON received a Coastal Impact Assistance Program grant to install four Sentinel of the Coast structures over the next two years.

TCOON was created by the Texas legislature in 1991 to collect water level data along the entire Texas Gulf Coast. CBI manages the TCOON and is entrusted with providing high-quality scientific data to the TCOON sponsors and the general public.
