October 07, 2013

Balkin

HOUSTON, Texas – Dr. Richard S. Balkin, Assistant Dean for the College of Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, is one of three professors across the nation who was recognized with the Outstanding Research Award at the annual conference for the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling September 6-7, in Houston, Texas.

Balkin worked with lead authors Dr. Stephen Lenz from the University of Memphis, and Dr. Michelle Perepiczka from Walden University, on the article titled, “Evidence for the Mitigating Effects of a Support Group for Attitudes toward Statistics,” published in the Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation journal this June.

The article was the result of a large, series single-case, research project to assess the effectiveness of a four-season peer support group intervention, with students, in a doctoral counselor education program, completing statistics coursework.

The Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC) is an organization of counselors, educators, and other professionals that advances the counseling profession by promoting best practices in assessment, research, and evaluation in counseling. The mission of AARC is to promote and recognize excellence in assessment, research, and evaluation in counseling.
