CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Pollution Prevention Partnership (P3) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi provided two Vehicle Emissions Testing Events on Nov. 21-22 at Corpus Christi City Hall and the Corpus Christi Water Department Holly Road Station.

Autocheck is designed to cater to the general public by hosting events where individuals can have the emissions levels of their cars tested at no cost to them. Every emissions test also includes testing of the car’s gas cap. A leaky gas cap can cause both the vehicle operator money through evaporation of fuel and unnecessary emissions into our environment. After testing, if a vehicle is found to be polluting, it could quality for a voucher for up to $500 in repairs. The testing of each vehicle took less than three minutes.

“Autocheck was born in an effort to help small businesses and the community do their part for the environment,” said Christina Cisneros-Guzman, Program Manager of the P3. “Today, we focus on helping both individuals and businesses lessen their carbon footprint through vehicle emissions testing. Our program saves consumers money by helping their cars run more efficiently and providing vouchers for free repairs.”

The Pollution Prevention Partnership started in 1995. P3’s Autocheck program is funded by an inter-local agreement between the City of Corpus Christi and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The P3 delivers a broad range of environmental assistance programs and services including environmental education, pollution prevention, and environmental compliance assistance to citizens, schools, businesses, industry, and governments throughout the Coastal Bend.
