Eight Students Accepted into McNair Scholars Program for Fall 2013

McNair Rising Scholars

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The McNair Scholars Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has accepted eight new students for fall 2013. The program prepares qualified undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities including STEM research projects.

Participants are from underrepresented groups and have demonstrated strong academic potential. To be eligible for the program, candidates must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and must be enrolled full-time.

The new McNair Scholars are:

  • Teresa Aguilar – a junior psychology major, who is pursuing a minor in sociology. Aguilar is a native of San Antonio.  
  • Lauren Hernandez – a sophomore psychology major, who is a native of Corpus Christi. She is also involved in the Honors Program.
  • Luis Lugo, a junior geology major, who is a native of Corpus Christi. He works for the SOAR program as a SI leader. 
  • Amy Mackay, a senior psychology and philosophy double major, who is from Portland, Texas.
  • Correy Miller – a junior psychology major
  • Megan Perkins – a junior psychology and biomedical science double major, who is from Georgetown, Texas 
  • Shane Smith – a sophomore mechanical engineering major, who is from Levelland, Texas. He is also involved with the SOAR program and recently completed a research project funded by them. 
  • Mariela Vasquez – a senior chemistry major who is pursuing a minor in mathematics. She is from Clint, Texas. She is also involved with LSAMP and completed a research project for them.
