CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Edward Tyndall, Assistant Professor of Media Production at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, received the Feature Screenplay Award during the 36th annual Starz Denver Film Festival (SDFF) held Nov. 6-17 in Denver, Colo.  Tyndall received the award for his screenplay titled “Falfurrias.”

Tyndall’s winning screenplay tells the story of Araceli, an orphan of the Mexican drug war, who embarks on a pilgrimage of undocumented entry into the United States from Mexico to reunite with her dying sister. After Araceli teams up with small-time criminal, Ringo, to cross the Rio Grande, Araceli must choose between violence and compassion to survive in the borderlands of Texas.

"I’m grateful to be part of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, an academic institution that encourages its faculty to pursue creative and scholarly activity at the highest level,” said Tyndall. “The ability to attend the Starz Denver Film Festival with the screenplay ‘Falfurrias’ was a tremendous opportunity for me, borne out of that support.  Such festivals, with their international focus and environment of creative engagement, play an essential role in the development and dissemination of film art. It was a fantastic step forward for the script.”

The 36th annual Starz Denver Film Festival featured more than 270 films from 44 countries. The festival is also recognized as the Rocky Mountain region's largest film event, attracting more than 50,000 filmgoers during the 12-day celebration.
