Community Members Celebrate the Holiday Season at ‘Navidad de los Niños’ Christmas Festival

December 10, 2013

Fiesta de los Niños

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Around 1,200 children and their families gathered to celebrate the holiday season at the 30th annual “Navidad de los Niños’ children’s Christmas festival on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center.

“We had a great outpouring of community support, with more than 100 volunteers,” said Dr. Gilda Ramirez, Director of the Garcia Center. “The cold weather didn’t stop the volunteers or the community from coming together for our most successful Navidad to date.”

Due to the generosity of sponsoring businesses and community members, nearly 500 children received large presents such as bikes, scooters, and soccer balls. Children who won bikes and scooters were also fitted for helmets. Those who attended enjoyed snacks, games, activities, photos with Santa, and goodie bags, completely free of charge. The Zavala Elementary Spirit Team performed as part of the entertainment. Representatives from student organizations from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi hosted a variety of activities and booths.

The festival was hosted by the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center and lead sponsorship was provided by the Westside Business Association, Citgo, H-E-B, and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi College of Education.
