Stripes Donates More than $100,000 in Scholarship Funds for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Students

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has been awarded $101,000 in funds from Stripes Convenience Stores for student scholarships. These monies will assist 101 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students, who will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships during the 2014-2015 academic year through the Stripes College Scholarship Fund.

“We want to thank Stripes and our Coastal Bend residents for investing in our students,” said Dr. Flavius Killebrew, President and CEO of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. “Stripes has been a longtime supporter of the University and our partnership with them helps ensure that many more students are able to achieve their educational goals.”

The company also supports the University’s Athletics Program.

To be considered for the scholarship, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students must be residents of designated counties, enrolled a minimum of 12 semester hours; and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. A&M-Corpus Christi is one of 18 colleges and universities throughout the state that participated. The scholarship awards will be selected and managed by the participating community colleges and universities enrolled in the program.

In its first year, the Stripes Scholarship Fund helped raise a total of $545,000 from all 575 stores in the Stripes operating area that covers Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

“We will make a difference in the lives of our youth by investing in them today through college scholarships,” said Sam L. Susser, Chairman, CEO, and President of Susser Holdings Corporation, the parent company of Stripes LLC. “Again, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers for contributing over half a million dollars to further the education of so many students.”

The four-week, in-store fundraising campaign was held at all Stripes locations throughout the Stripes operating area from December 2-29, 2013. Stripes customers purchased $1 Stripes College Scholarship Fund paper cut-outs during the December 2013 campaign to help local students obtain a college education.

The Susser Holdings Corporation is headquartered in Corpus Christi, Texas, with more than 600 convenience stores across Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Of those stores, 580 operate under the Stripes banner. For more information about Stripes(r) Convenience Stores, go to
