CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Department of Math and Statistics at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi was presented with a 2013-2014 iAchieve Partners in Education Award during a luncheon held March 26.
The winners were announced by Superintendent Scott Elliff, with Carol A. Scott, President of the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) Board of Trustees, and 10 CCISD student presenters.
The Department of Math and Statistics received a Math Partnership & Awareness Award for helping Berlanga Elementary have a Family Math Night last fall. Berlanga Elementary student Ricardo "Ricky" Lopez presented the award to Dr. George Tintera, Department Chair.
As part of the recognition ceremony, Lopez spoke in appreciation of the event and how it helped him enjoy math more than he already did. The recognition is due to the effort of Sarah Ives and Marcia Venzon, instructors of the students who put on the Family Math Night.
The Department of Math and Statistics received a number of thank you letters from teachers and students at Berlanga Elementary School.
The iAchieve Partners in Education include businesses, organizations and individuals who support CCISD through financial contributions and volunteerism, as well as gifts to enhance curriculum, provide new technology and programming and impact the lives of CCISD students.
