CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Employees were recognized for their dedication and service to the Island University during the 18th annual Islander Awards Celebration held Friday, April 25, in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. During the ceremony, service award pins were presented to employees who achieved five-year service milestones.
In addition, staff and faculty Excellence Award recipients were announced.
Recipients of Faculty Excellence Awards were:
Excellence in Creative Activity Award: Greg Reuter, Professor in the College of Liberal Arts
Excellence in Teaching Award: Dr. Ping-Jung Tintera, Professional Assistant Professor in the College of Science and Engineering
Excellence in Service Award: Dr. Nancy Goodman, Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity Award: Dr. Paul Zimba, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Coastal Studies
Excellence in Teaching Innovation Award: Dr. David Grise, Professional Assistant Professor in the College of Science and Engineering
Recipients of Staff Excellence Awards were:
Excellence Award: Mary Duenes, Facilities Assistant at the South Texas Institute for the Arts
Expansion Award: Korinne Caruso, Engineering Program Coordinator in the College of Science and Engineering
Engagement Award: Jerille Milligan, Assistant Director of the Islander Transition Center
Approximately 170 employees received service award pins.
Recipients of 40-Year Service Pins were:
Dr. Leon Dube: Professor of Marketing in the College of Business
Dr. John Tunnell: Associate Director of the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies
The program also honored recent graduates in the “Parade of Achievers,” recipients of the Dorothy Yeater Scholarship, and the most recent cohort of the Leadership, Excellence, and Development Program. Family and friends of the recipients were invited to attend.
