CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Department of Theatre has sold out its opening matinee performance of the fifth Annual Summer Show for Youth, Johnny Simons’ “Pinocchio Commedia.”
Other performances will be Thursday, July 31, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m.; and on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. Directed by Kelly Russell, Associate Professor of Theatre and Director of Department of Theatre and Dance, the familiar childhood story is re-enacted by University theatre students in what promises to be an unforgettable show.
“This play is based off the original tale of Pinocchio, so guests can expect to see some familiar characters,” said Russell. “It includes everything performers and audiences enjoy – from comedy and serious moments to magical events, and of course a good lesson.”
Told in the traditional comic style of the Italian Commedia dell’arte, the show follows the adventures of a marionette who strives to become a real boy. Through his adventures with Geppetto the Wood Carver, a sly fox, a silly cat, the wicked puppet master and a wise cricket, Pinocchio learns that telling lies has serious consequences.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $6.50 for children 12 and under, and $5 for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students with a valid SandDollar$ ID at the door. Group rates are also available. For information or to purchase tickets, go to http://cla.tamucc.edu/theatre/productions/2014/
