Corpus Christi, Texas—In an effort to expand Corpus Christi City Employees Credit Union's commitment to fund Scholarships to students of the Coastal Bend, the Credit Union is pleased to announce a joint effort between the Corpus Christi City Employees Credit Union (CCCECU) and the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (CCHCC), in partnership with Del Mar College, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville, to contribute $50,000 to the Mano A Mano Scholarship Empowerment Program. The Hispanic Chamber Scholarship Program was developed in 2002 to encourage students to continue their education locally and develop a well-trained, highly motivated workforce for the Coastal Bend.
CCCECU's investment in the program will consist of $10,000 per year for the next 5 years. When matched by the Universities and College, the contribution will double to $100,000. The Mano A Mano program provides a $2,000 scholarship per recipient for the academic year, $1,000 which is provided by the Mano A Mano program and the participating Universities and College match the contribution by 100%. All Mano A Mano scholarship recipients are asked to commit to remaining and working in the Coastal Bend area after graduation in the field in which they have earned a degree. CCCECU will also be recognized as an Education Partner with the CCHCC.
"CCCECU is committed to education in our community. Since 2007 CCCECU has awarded 133 Scholarships of $500 each totaling $66,500 through its own scholarship program. Partnering with the Mano A Mano program will allow the Credit Union to increase its Return on Investment of scholarship dollars through the CCHCC partnership with the participating Universities and College match. This partnership between CCCECU and the CCHCC Mano A Mano program will allow CCCECU to stretch those scholarship dollars further"—David Brooks, President.
