Department of Music Presents Recital Featuring Nationally Recognized Musical Artists

The Department of Music at the Island University presented an afternoon recital featuring Jonathan Blalock, Nationally-Acclaimed Tenor, and Glen Roven, Emmy Award Winning Pianist and Composer, on Sept. 24, in the Performing Arts Center. Students, the public, local art enthusiasts and faculty were encouraged to come and witness the professional artists teach music performance, composition, and conducting.

“The opportunity for professionals to work with students is coveted,” said Dr. Hope Thacker, Assistant Professor of Voice. “Even more wonderful is the fact that these are great individuals who want to encourage students to follow their dreams in the music field.”

Thacker wanted students, who are interested in the music field, to experience the culture and diversity of these two professionals in what they do best. In addition to the recital, Blalock and Roven gave private coaching and a master class to students. Roven also gave a lecture in a music industry class.

“Since I plan to develop a career in music someday, it’s always reassuring to see individuals with such great talent perform in Corpus Christi,” said student Yvonne Alaniz.
