Islander Cultural Alliance Celebrates Diversity at Annual Culture Fest

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – More than 200 students and members of the community enjoyed various ethnic foods and dance performances at the annual Culture Fest presented by the Islander Cultural Alliance (ICA) of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

The event, which was held on November 15 in the Island Hall Gym, featured performances by the Aruande Capoeria Club, India Student Association, Corpus Christi Irish Dancers, the Pacific Islanders, a Polynesian dance troupe, the Corpus Christi Concert Ballet, Vietnamese Student Association, and Alcorta’s Compania de Danza Folklorica. The event, which also featured crafts and displays from multicultural student organizations, was free and open to the public.

“Culture Fest is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our campus,” said Dina Ruiz, President of ICA. “We have students from all over the world and I think it’s great that we can come together and experience a part of their culture.”

ICA is a student run organization that focuses specifically on providing multicultural and diversity programs for the Texas A&M Corpus Christi community in an effort to raise cultural awareness.
