Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center Names Andrea Elizondo as New Director

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Andrea Elizondo has been named Director of the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center, located at 2021 Agnes St. in Corpus Christi.

Elizondo, who has 15 years of service in adult education and development, will oversee and manage the center, coordinate services and act as a community outreach liaison. She will develop working relationships with community members including parents, local businesses and national businesses, state, and local agencies including school districts, county and city courts, and other private and public entities.

The College of Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has managed the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center since October 2004.  Located in the heart of the city’s west side, the Garcia Center is a city- owned, University-operated facility leased through the Art Museum of South Texas. Current program focus areas include health and wellness education, arts and cultural programs, literacy instruction, and guidance/counseling programs.  

Elizondo is the former Executive Director of the Rise School of Corpus Christi. She has 15 years of education experience in fiscal management, grant writing, program administration, student services, and P-20 student success initiatives.  She has taught GED students, ESL students, and international students at the University of Colorado in Boulder and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and worked with students from culturally-diverse backgrounds. 

Elizondo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Telecommunications in 1992 from Ohio University.  She received a master’s degree in Adult Education and Development in 2010 from Texas State University.  In addition, Elizondo has taught English in Curacao, the Netherlands; Lugano, Switzerland; and Barcelona, Spain, where she lived for one year.
