Bell Library Hosts Campus Celebration in Honor of Dr. Seuss’ 111th Birthday

The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christ held a special birthday celebration for the notable children’s book author, Dr. Seuss, on March 2 with staff, faculty, students, and the public in attendance.

The event featured a large display of Dr. Seuss’ most popular books along with a giant four-layer birthday created in his honor.

“Dr. Seuss plays a big role in literacy for all ages,” said Dalila Ortiz, senior education major.  “His readings open up everyone’s imagination.”

Students were encouraged to stop by the library dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss character to be entered to win a grand prize. In addition to a costume contest, the event also offered carnival type games and prizes.

“It’s Dr. Seuss’ 111th birthday and it’s also the National Education Association’s 18th Read Across America Day,” said Jennifer Anderson, Marketing and Communication Librarian. “It’s an awesome opportunity to encourage kids and teens to pick up a book, and just read.”
