University Media Student to Screen Winning Short Film at International Film Festival

July 21, 2015

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Edward Montez, a Media Production student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will screen his short film titled “Lucid” at the Indie Gathering International Film Festival to be held Thursday, Aug.  27, through Sunday, Aug. 30, in Hudson, Ohio. The film received fourth place in the festival’s Student Short category.

Montez quickly learned there are numerous moving parts to making a film.

“Once the script was written and revised, we had to figure out our budget, scout for locations, order props, recruit more people outside of my six-man crew, put together a shooting schedule, and hold auditions and rehearsals,” said Montez, who had a total cast of 14 people. “Working with that many people’s schedules is a huge task in itself.”

The Media Production professors at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi have been a big help in guiding Montez, who will graduate in fall 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media.

“They are very knowledgeable about the industry and passionate about their craft,” said Montez. “The Theatre Department was also a tremendous help with distributing flyers for auditions and the actors were great to work with.”

The film’s plot centers around a character named Lisa, a recovered drug addict who is experiencing strange occurrences in her house while having dreams about a traumatic experience. She soon realizes she has to confront her brother to get over her troubled past. For more information about the film, click HERE.
