Island University Students Receive Scholarships for Winning Artwork

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The winners of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 2015 President’s Council Student Art Show, held on Tuesday, Dec. 1 are:

First placeVictor Delgado received first place for his 120mm film print, “Baptism of a Modern Man.” Delgado received a $1,000 scholarship.

Second placeRebeka Garcia received second place for her hand-colored lithograph, “Pelican by the Shore.” Garcia received a $750 scholarship.

Third placeArtug Altug received third place for his photograph, “The Moon Shot.” Altug received a $500 scholarship.

A private reception and art show was held at the Art Museum of South Texas to recognize the members of the 2015 President’s Council. President’s Council Chairs are Laurel and Ken Herring.

Since 2001, the President’s Council Student Art Show has served to recognize the artistic talents of Islander students. Each year, eligible students are invited to submit works for the show, and members of the President’s Council vote to select the winners.

The winning artwork becomes part of University’s permanent collection and is displayed prominently around campus. Also, the first place winner has their artwork commemorated by being made into a wine bottle label. The wine bottles are on display in the University Center’s Legacy Hall.
