‘Catch the Spirit’ Feb. 1-6 during Island University Homecoming Week

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi faculty, staff and students will join with Islander alumni and the community to celebrate a week of festivities during 2016 Homecoming, from Monday, Feb. 1, through Saturday, Feb. 6.

The theme of this year’s homecoming is “Catch the Spirit.” The Homecoming hashtag is #IslanderSpirit. Activities will include a variety of events for all ages including a Faculty/Staff vs. Students Basketball Game, the Lighting of the “I” Spirit Rally and an Alumni Honors Banquet.

“This is the 10th year of the parade and we are so excited and hoping for our largest turn out yet,” said Amy Kotulski, 2016 Homecoming Chair and Assistant Director of Student Activities. “Every year, our traditions are getting stronger and our students get more excited. With what we have planned this year, it will be the best Homecoming celebration yet.”

Saturday festivities include a colorful downtown parade and the Official Homecoming Tailgate before the Islanders men’s basketball game against Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. in the American Bank Center.

All graduates and former students from the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are considered members of the greater alumni family.

To purchase a 2016 official Homecoming shirt, click here. They will also be available in the University bookstore starting on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Shirts will also be sold in the breezeway in front of the Bell Library from Wednesday, Jan. 20, through Friday, Jan. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Short sleeve are $10 and long sleeve shirts are $15.

Monday, Feb. 1

  • Student vs. Staff/Faculty Basketball Game – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold a Student vs. Staff/Faculty Basketball Game on Monday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. The game is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Feb. 3

  • Women’s Basketball Game – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Women’s Basketball Team will play Houston Baptist on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. Advanced purchase tickets are $8 (general admission) and $12 (reserved seating) and can be purchased by clicking here or by calling 361.825.BALL.

Friday, Feb. 5

  • Alumni Honors Banquet – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host the Alumni Honors Banquet on Friday, Feb. 5, from 6-9 p.m. in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom. Attend the banquet to celebrate the University’s Distinguished Alumni and Islander Athletic Hall of Honor inductees. Ticket prices are $35 for recent graduates (2011 or later) and $50 for all other alumni and individual. Tables of 8 are also available for $350. Tickets can be purchased here.
  • Lighting of the “I” – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host the Lighting of the “I” on Friday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Curlew Plaza, in front of the Islander Dining Hall.

Saturday, Feb. 6

  • ROTC Centennial 5K – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander Battalion will hold its Centennial 5K and Push-up Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 6, starting at 7 a.m. in the Hammerhead parking lot. This event is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Army ROTC and the10th anniversary of the Army ROTC Islander Battalion.   • Women’s Basketball Game – The Islander Women’s Basketball game vs. Sam Houston State for Southland Conference supremacy will take place Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. in the American Bank Center.   • Homecoming Parade – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is inviting local businesses, organizations and non-profits to participate in the 10th annual Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Feb. 6, starting at 4 p.m. The parade will begin on N. Shoreline Blvd. at Starr Street and end at the American Bank Center. The registration deadline to participate in the parade is Friday, Jan. 29, at midnight.   • Official Homecoming Tailgate – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold the Official Homecoming Tailgate on Saturday, Feb. 6, starting at 4 p.m. in the American Bank Center parking lot.   • Alumni & Friends Pre-Game Party – Come celebrate Homecoming by joining your Islander Alumni Association for a family friendly Pre-Game Homecoming Party! This event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 4 p.m. at the American Bank Center before the Men’s Basketball Game. There will be games and activities for kids, a visit from Izzy the Islander and lots of giveaways. Tickets are $5 and include a full plate of barbeque provided by Howard’s, as well as adult beverages. Children 10 and under are admitted free.
