Inaugural Island Run 5K, 1K Invites All Ages to Enjoy Beautiful Campus Scenery

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Join the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi National Alumni Association for their first Island Run. It will be a perfect time to enjoy the beautiful campus scenery while participating in healthy physical activity that benefits student scholarships as well as the Islander Alumni Association.

The 5K and 1K run will be held on Saturday, April 9, with the 1K beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K beginning at 8 a.m. at the Hammerhead Parking Lot, located at the second entrance to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus. The Island Run consists of a route weaving through the campus, overlooking the beautiful Oso Bay and is open to all ages in the community.

“Over the past few years, we’ve been working hard to get more involved in our local community and this is a great way to interact with a bunch of folks at one time,” said Russell Wagner, Director of Engagement. “As we continue to grow, we want to create more opportunities for individuals, community and alumni alike, to get involved with the University and Alumni Association.”

Proceeds from the event will also go toward the Class Agents Scholarship Program. Free parking will be available in the SandDollar Parking Lot. Registration includes a custom Island Run T-shirt, runner packet and timing chip. Early registration will be available through Saturday, March 26.

Awards include: Overall Male and Female, and the top three in the following age categories: 10 and younger, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and older.

The cost to enter the 5K is $25 for adults, $10 for children 12 and younger, and $15 for TAMU-CC students with a SandDollar$ ID at the time of packet pickup.

Packet pick-up will be on Friday, April 8, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Woo Sung Lee Alumni Welcome Center, 6129 Ennis Joslin Road. Multiple sponsorship opportunities are also available. The sponsorship deadline is Saturday, March 26.
