Jonathan Larson’s endearing and award-winning rock musical, “RENT,” will be performed by the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Department of Theatre and Dance from Tuesday, April 19, through Sunday, April 24, in the Warren Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday, with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.
Inspired by Giacomo Puccini’s opera “La Boheme,” “RENT” tells the story of a group of friends living in East Village, New York City, while struggling with issues like finding their voices, poverty and HIV/AIDS. The musical was one of the first to bring bisexual and transgender characters to Broadway and still today speaks to everyone who loves musical theatre.
“I’m very excited to work with such a talented and enthusiastic cast,” said J. Don Luna, Director of the University production. “With a cast of 32 characters singing and dancing, we are planning on rocking the Warren Theatre. Sparkling choreography by Jilissa Cotten and brilliant musical direction by Michael Perez round out this ground-breaking rock musical production. ‘RENT’ promises to be an amazing evening of high energy musical theatre!”
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “RENT” has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.
Tickets prices are $10 for adults, $7 for students and $5 for TAMU-CC students with a valid SandDollar$ ID. For more information, call 361.825.3756; or to purchase tickets, click HERE. Tickets for “RENT” are also available at the door of the Warren Theatre the evenings of the production.
