Island University Graduate Professionals Honored at Awards Luncheon

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The College of Graduate Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi honored outstanding graduate professionals and educators at the Graduate Awards Luncheon held on April 5 as part of the third annual Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSAW) April 4-8.

GPSAW is a week-long series of campus-wide events to honor and recognize the contributions of our graduate students.  At the awards luncheon, City Councilwoman Colleen McIntyre read a proclamation to officially recognize Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week on behalf of Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez.

The award recipients, who were presented with a plaque during the luncheon, were:

Outstanding Doctoral Mentor Award: Dr. Joshua Watson – College of Education and Human Development

Outstanding Master’s Mentor Award: Dr. Amy Houlihan –  College of Liberal Arts

Outstanding Doctoral Student: Brittany Blomberg – College of Science and Engineering

Outstanding Master’s Student Award: Cristina Rhodes – College of Liberal Arts

Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award: Jeannette Gomez – College of Education and Human Development

Outstanding Research Assistant Award: Emily Cira – College of Science and Engineering

1st place Doctoral 3MT® Thesis Competition Winner – Avery Scherer – College of Science and Engineering

2nd place Doctoral 3MT® Thesis Competition Winner – Laurie Beveridge – College of Education and Human Development

People’s Choice 3MT® Thesis Competition Winner – I-Shuo Huang – College of Science and Engineering

Other events held during the week included a grant writing and CV building workshop, an interview and loan repayment workshop, a free professional photo shoot, a meditation and dissertation writing workshop, a job hunt workshop, the inaugural Master’s level 3MT® (three-minute thesis) Competition and a graduate student mixer.
