National Society of Leadership and Success Inducts 96 Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi chapter of the National Society for Leadership and Success inducted 96 students at its spring 2016 induction ceremony held April 23 in the University Center. In addition, 19 students received the National Engaged Leader Award and 16 students received the Success Networking Facilitator Appreciation Award.

The induction ceremony also featured keynote speaker Karen O’Connor Urban, a member and past President of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Foundation Board, who co-chaired the University’s $37,000,000 capital campaign, along with her husband Larry Urban.

Karen O’Connor Urban and the late Michael O’Connor provided a $6 million gift to help build the University’s Michael and Karen O’Connor Building, a $25 million facility which is home to the College of Business.

She is also a member of the Board of Governors and past Chairman of the South Texas Institute for the Arts, a member of the Christus Spohn Foundation Board and the Christus Spohn System. In addition, Urban is a member of Clowns Who Care, ministering to children at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

The National Society for Leadership and Success is the nation's largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. With 504 chapters, the Society currently has 590,439 members nationwide. In addition to honorable distinction, the Society provides a step-by-step program for members to build their leadership skills through participation at their campus or online.
