High Schoolers Show Off Engineering Skills with Competition

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Thirteen teams of middle and high-school students participated in an engineering competition and tours hosted by the College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on Saturday, April 30.

The students designed and built a chariot large enough to accommodate one student. The event culminated with chariot races along a straight and slalom course. Participating teams were from the following schools: Kaffie Middle, Martin Middle, Collegiate High, Moody High, Sinton High, Veterans Memorial High and West Oso High.

“West Oso Bears” from West Oso High took first place. “Where da GEMS at?” from Moody High received second place. “Delta Gladiator Titans of Fire on Ice” from Sinton High placed third.

Participants also toured engineering research labs and learned more about programs.
