Turkey National and Research-Driven Marine Biology Student Among 467 Summer TAMU-CC Graduates

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Students from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s five colleges received their diplomas during the summer 2016 commencement ceremony Saturday, Aug. 6, at the American Bank Center located at 1901 N. Shoreline Blvd.

The 467 summer graduates included:
- Mehmet Akif Karaman: International scholar and originally from Turkey, Karaman used his time at the Island University wisely. Passionate about cross-cultural studies, he successfully published and received awards for his research on refugees from Kenya, Iraq and Afghanistan. Karaman graduated with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and recently accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Read more about Karaman here.
- Josette Delgado: The El Paso, Texas, native took advantage of many once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to achieve her academic goals. Delgado spent three weeks aboard a New Zealand-bound research vessel, managed a geochemistry lab, and served as a research assistant for the Isotope Core Lab at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Delgado took charge of her independence and education by earning more than 10 different scholarships during her collegiate career. Delgado graduated with a Master of Science in Marine Biology. The commencement speaker was Larry Mills, Executive Vice President of Holt Companies.
