CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Audiences will discover the mysteries of the universe during the fall 2016 Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Distinguished Speaker Series featuring Dr. Brian Greene, American theoretical physicist and string theorist. Greene, a Professor of Physics and Mathematics and the Director of the Center for Theoretical Physics at Columbia University, has lectured in more than 30 countries and on all seven continents. He is widely regarded for a number of groundbreaking discoveries in superstring theory and is co-founder of the World Science Festival, which has drawn an audience of more than 1.5 million to its annual events.
“Besides being a well-known scientist, Dr. Brian Greene is an award-winning science communicator who can bring to life processes that occur – from the vast universe to the inside of tiny atoms,” said Dr. Philippe Tissot, Associate Research Professor in the College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Associate Director of the Conrad Blucher Institute.
Greene has published several books including “The Elegant Universe,” “The Fabric of the Cosmos” and “Hidden Reality,” all of which received high praise. “The Elegant Universe” and “The Fabric of the Cosmos” were each adapted into multi-part PBS documentaries hosted by Greene, and lauded with numerous honors including a George Foster Peabody Award for Broadcasting Excellence.
Greene has made numerous media appearances from “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to “Charli Rose,” and has had cameo roles in the Hollywood films “Frequency,” “Maze” and “The Last Mimzy” as well as the television show, “The Big Bang Theory.”
Each spring and fall, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Distinguished Speaker Series brings accomplished national and international speakers to campus to provide insight, provoke thought, and stimulate conversation about the country’s most compelling issues.
