Island University’s Hike and Bike Trail Tops List in ‘The Bend Magazine’

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Designed for fitness enthusiast and nature explorers alike, the Island University’s Hike and Bike Trail was ranked No.1 in the October 2016 edition of the “The Bend Magazine.” “The Bend Magazine” is a monthly publication featuring top restaurants, retail outlets, entertainment, neighborhoods and healthcare services in the Coastal Bend. The October issue focused on health and wellness.

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Hike and Bike Trail is 1.7 miles long, and wraps around Ward Island, offering unobstructed views of the Oso Bay. It is open for public use.

“We take great pride in preserving the beauty of our waterfront trail and the nature surrounding it,” said Franklin Harrison, Director of Recreational Sports at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. “Many different species of plants along the trail are identified with signage, and it’s not uncommon to see small wildlife scurrying across the trail.”

In their October issue, “The Bend Magazine” ranked 10 local trails based on 13 criteria. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Hike and Bike Trail was given special accolades in four areas, including biking, grasslands, stroller-accessibility and pet-friendliness.
