CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Christmas music goes country on Monday, Dec. 5, during Michael Martin Murphey’s Cowboy Christmas Concert. The concert, part of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 2016-2017 Furgason Bravo! Series, will take place in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 7:30 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to present an artist such as Michael Martin Murphey who has had such longevity and success across musical genres,” said Dr. Lari Young, Director of the PAC. “This will be his 12th consecutive year coming to the Island University.”
Murphey, a guitarist, singer and songwriter, is an accomplished musician who began his career in Dallas in the 1960’s. His music blends country, folk and rock music into a unique musical style all his own. Widely respected in the pop and country western music scenes, Murphey’s story-telling song, “Wildfire,” reached No. 1 on the Radio & Records Chart and Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart. Murphey came up with the innovative concert concept, “Cowboy Christmas,” in 1987 and has since become a trademarked touring show.
“It is my hope that Murphey’s concert will touch the audiences’ hearts,” said Young. “The timeless songs he performs and the unique atmosphere he creates is something you don’t see and hear every day.”
