World Renowned Musician to Visit Island University for Solo Recital

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Community members will have the opportunity to experience music from Paul Merkelo, world-renowned trumpet player on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, as part of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 2016-2017 Furgason Bravo! Series. The recital will take place in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 7:30 p.m.

“Any time you can hear a musician of Paul Merkelo’s caliber, it is something to be celebrated,” said Dr. Lari Young, Director of the PAC. “We’re so excited to have him here at the University for the Bravo! series.”

Merkelo is principle trumpet with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and is renowned as one of the finest trumpet players of his generation. He will be accompanied in his recital by Rebecca Wilt, Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, on piano.

“We hope lots of people come out to hear this world-class musician,” said Young. “This is a unique opportunity that you don’t get every day.”

All money raised through ticket sales will go back to the Music Department to assist with scholarships. Concert tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for Islander Students with a valid SandDollar$ ID. Tickets can be purchased online at http://tamucc.tix.com or by phone at 361.825.ARTS.
