CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Islander spirit will be at an all-time high during the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 2017 Homecoming week, taking place from Sunday, Feb. 12, through Saturday, Feb. 18. Faculty, staff and students, along with alumni and the local community, are invited to celebrate along with the University.

This year’s homecoming theme is “Islander Forever,” and the homecoming hashtag is #IslanderForever. Events include an official Mayoral Proclamation at City Hall, a Students vs. Faculty/Staff Basketball Game, the Lighting of the “I” Spirit Rally and an Alumni Honors Banquet. New this year is the lighting of the Harbor Bridge in blue, green and white for the entire week of Homecoming.

Homecoming week will come to a close on Saturday, Feb. 18, with multiple events including the Official Homecoming Tailgate before the Islander Men’s Basketball game against Lamar University at 7 p.m. in the American Bank Center.

“This year – more than ever – we are excited to celebrate our theme of being an ‘Islander Forever,’” said Stephanie Schmidt, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Director of Student Life. “As we get ready to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Island University this spring, we love commemorating our historic traditions and initiating new ways to join with the Corpus Christi community to highlight all of the great achievements happening on campus.”

All graduates and former students from the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are considered members of the greater alumni family.

The University is holding several events each day, including:

Sunday, Feb. 12

  • Islander Clean – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will open Homecoming 2017 with the Islander Clean on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Performing Arts Center parking lot. Community and campus is invited to help the Student Volunteer Connection with our annual Island spring cleaning as we keep Ward Island beautiful and trash free.
  • Medallion Hunt Kickoff – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will kick off the Medallion Hunt on Sunday, Feb. 12, at noon in the Performing Arts Center parking lot. Students who are spirit competition participants will start earning competition points as the annual Medallion Hunt scavenger hunt kicks off.

Monday, Feb. 13

  • Women’s Tennis vs. UTEP – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Women’s Tennis Team will play UTEP on Monday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center, on the Momentum Campus located on Nile Drive.
  • Tip Off – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will officially kick off this year’s Homecoming festivities during Tip Off on Monday, Feb. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Center for Instruction Courtyard. Come out to meet the Homecoming Court Nominees, grab some free snacks, games, fun and win some prizes.
  • Student vs. Staff/Faculty Basketball Game – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi faculty/staff will be out to defend their win last year during the Student vs. Staff/Faculty Basketball annual game on Monday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. The game is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Feb. 14:

  • Mayoral Proclamation The City of Corpus Christi will be declaring Feb. 12-18 as “TAMU-CC Homecoming Week.” The proclamation will be read at the city council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 11:30 a.m.
  • SGA Penny Wars – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold the Student Government Association (SGA) Penny War fundraiser on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the breezeway outside the Mary and Jeff Bell Library.
  • Be My Islander – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will be hosting the Be My Islander event on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Center Rotunda. Students can stop by to send custom Valentine’s greetings to your favorite Islander. Be My Islander is sponsored by University Center Programming.
  • Medallion Hunt Trivia – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold the Medallion Hunt Trivia Night on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom A&B. Teams will compete against each other answering trivia on the University to win that night’s Medallion Cube.
  • Couples Cooking Class – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host a Couples Cooking Class on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom C.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

  • SGA Penny Wars – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold a second SGA Penny War fundraiser on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Center Rotunda.
  • Faculty & Staff Legacy Luncheon – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold the Faculty & Staff Legacy Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom.  Are you an Alumnus working on-campus? Join us for a special lunch with your fellow Islander Alums. Attendees will hear from the 2017 Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. Scott Elliff, receive a free t-shirt, and a box lunch. RSVPs are required at IslanderAlumni.org/Homecoming.
  • Islanderino – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host the Islanderino on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 9 p.m., in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom. Islander students are invited to come out and enjoy a night of free entertainment and casino games.

Thursday, Feb. 16

  • Anchor’s Away – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold its Anchor’s Away event on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the anchor statue outside of the University Center. Students are invited to join the Alumni Association for snacks and refreshments as they learn more about one of the greatest TAMU-CC traditions, the anchor!

Friday, Feb. 17

  • “Welcome Home!” Open House – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold its “Welcome Home!” Open House on Friday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Woo Sing Lee Alumni Welcome Center, 3129 Ennis Joslin Rd.
  • Friday Fiesta – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host the Friday Fiesta on Friday, Feb. 17, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on the University campus East Lawn. Join fellow Islander students to celebrate life on the Island through games, activities and free food.
  • Islander Alumni Association Annual Meeting – All Islander alumni are invited to celebrate Homecoming Week by attending the Islander Alumni Association Annual Meeting, held Friday, Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. in the University Center, Oso Room 221.
  • Lighting of the “I” – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host the Lighting of the “I” on Friday, Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Anchor Plaza, between the University Center and the Center for Science. Come out to show your Islander spirit! This event is free and open to the public.
  • Baseball vs. Bradley – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Baseball Team will compete against Bradley University on Friday, Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Chapman Field, on campus.
  • Alumni Honors Banquet – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host the Alumni Honors Banquet on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom. To buy tickets, click here.

Saturday, Feb. 18

  • Islander ROTC 5K – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander Battalion will hold its 5K run on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7 a.m. in the Hammerhead parking lot. To register, go to rotc5k.tamucc.edu.
  • Alumni Breakfast & Campus Tours – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold Breakfast & Campus Tours on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9-11 a.m. in the Bayside Parking Garage.
  • Baseball vs. Bradley – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Baseball Team will be playing a second game against Bradly University on Saturday, Feb. 18, at noon, at Chapman Field, on campus.
  • Islander Women’s Basketball vs. Lamar University – The Islander Women’s Basketball game vs. Lamar University will take place on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. in the American Bank Center.   • Homecoming Tailgate and Block Party – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold the Official Homecoming Tailgate on Saturday, Feb. 18, starting at 4 p.m. in the American Bank Center parking lot. This event is free and open to the public and will feature a performance by Jake Ward. Join the campus community and get pumped up before the Homecoming game.   • Islander Alumni & Friends Pre-Game Party – Come celebrate Homecoming by joining your Islander Alumni Association for a family friendly Pre-Game Party on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. in the American Center Parking Lot, before the Homecoming game. There will be games and activities for kids, a visit from Izzy the Islander and lots of giveaways. Tickets are $5 and include a full plate of barbeque provided by Howard’s, as well as adult beverages. Children 10 and under are admitted for free.
