Dr. Mark Escamilla, Del Mar College President, to Deliver Keynote Address at Spring 2017 Islander Commencement

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is proud to host Dr. Mark Escamilla, Del Mar College President, as the keynote speaker during the spring 2017 Commencement Ceremonies.

Escamilla has a long history with the Island University. He transferred to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from Del Mar College and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 1992 and Master of Education in Counseling in 1995 from the Island University. He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas in Austin.

“I had a wonderful experience attending the Island University, which was at that time known as Corpus Christi State University,” said Escamilla. “A&M-Corpus Christi is a powerhouse university, and has provided me with an educational background that I am most proud of. I made many great friends there.”

The Island University and Del Mar College have a strong symbiotic relationship. The majority of students transferring from Del Mar College go to A&M-Corpus Christi, totaling almost 900 students a year.

“There is a close relationship between Del Mar College and TAMU-CC,” said Escamilla. “This partnership between the two can only get better with more focused attention toward advancing the goals of our local students.”

During his commencement address, Escamilla hopes to reinforce the notion of each graduate’s personal strengths that have been developed over their time at the Island University.

More than 1,105 students will be graduating during the ceremonies to be held on Saturday, May 13, at the American Bank Center. The University’s five colleges are split among the two ceremonies. Colleges graduating in each ceremony are:
