2018 Island University Homecoming Honors Banquet Honorees Announced

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The National Islander Alumni Association and Islanders Athletics at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi have announced their honorees for the 2018 Homecoming Honors Banquet, taking place Friday, Feb. 9 in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom.

Awards presented that evening include Distinguished Alumni Awards, Athletic Hall of Honor Inductions and College Achievement Distinctions.

“We have some great events planned for homecoming this year, and what a better way to kick-off the weekend than with our awards banquet,” said Russell Wagner, Executive Director of the National Alumni Association. “This is an amazing group of honorees who have impacted this University in a variety of ways. We are excited for them to come ‘home’ to celebrate their achievements with us.”

The 2018 Homecoming Honors Banquet is open to the public and tickets are now available through islanderalumni.org/store. Ticket prices begin at $35, with tables of eight priced at $350.

The 2018 recipients include:

Distinguished Alumni Awards

  • Distinguished Alumnus: Lieutenant General Larry Wyche ’82 – Retired Lieutenant General, serving a variety of roles, most recently the Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Materiel Command;
  • Outstanding Alumnus: Adam Farrell ’98, ’01 – Owner of Pinnacle Fitness and Performance;
  • Young Alumnus Award: Jonas Chupe ’07, ’09, ’12 – Director of Procurement, Voestalpine Texas.

Athletic Hall of Honor Inductions

  • 1971 University of Corpus Christi Tennis Team – Finished the season ranked No. 5 in the country and advanced to the NCAA National Championships;
  • Jaime Landin ’05, ’08 – Played from 2002-2005 as an infielder. He also holds the single-season record for batting average and career records in hits, extra-base hits and runs scored. 

College Achievement Distinctions

  • Dr. Michelle Durán ’14 – College of Education and Human Development
  • Valerie Ferdin ’13, ’15 – College of Science and Engineering
  • Samuel Longoria ’10 – College of Business
  • Laura Moreno ’13 – College of Nursing and Health Sciences
  • Dr. Don Trajan, Jr. ’08, ’10 – College of Liberal Arts
