Keynote Speaker

Dr. Joseph McCormick is a renowned epidemiologist and global health leader currently serving as the James H. Steele Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Hispanic Health Research Center at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Brownsville. Dr. McCormick is celebrated for his exceptional efforts in promoting health research, fostering knowledge-sharing, and initiating collaborative projects among community organizations, healthcare providers, and academic institutions. 

Dr. McCormick obtained his MD at Duke and an MS from Harvard under Dr. Weller (Nobel Laureate 1954). He trained at CHOP under Dr. Koop (later US Surgeon General), before joining the CDC where he spent over 10 years investigating deadly diseases in developing countries and establishing the world’s most secure biosafety labs. He founded the UT Houston School of Public Health campus in Brownsville in 2001, and since then the campus has published over 300 peer reviewed articles characterizing the extraordinary level of health disparities in the region.
