Biography
Upon graduating high school in Puerto Rico, Dr. Heavilin joined the United States Army. During his military service he was stationed in Georgia, Germany, and Texas. After separating from the military, he started college at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Between degrees, he spent three years in Qatar as a program manager in the Iraq Survey Group under the Defense Intelligence Agency.
He completed a PhD in Business (Finance) at UTEP in 2015 and has covered a wide variety of courses in finance, economics, business statistics, and quantitative methods for business. His research publications and interests are in investments, international finance, behavioral finance, and corporate finance.
In the private sector, he was a founding partner and managing director of a trading and contracting company that focused on business-to-business imports and services. He has also provided services as a consultant in business finance, strategic planning, and investments.
