Dr. Collin Webster is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. He previously held academic appointments at the University of Birmingham’s campus in Dubai, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Wollongong in Australia. Dr. Webster's background is in physical education. He was a K-12 physical education teacher from 2001-2003 in Dubai before pursuing a doctorate and graduating with his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 2006. In his teaching role, Dr. Webster specializes in teacher education and has taught a wide range of courses at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. He has supported 45 graduate theses and dissertations in the role of advisor or committee member. As a researcher, Dr. Webster focuses on the promotion of physical activity in children and adolescents through school systems. He is nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in the field, with more than 125 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and he co-edited the only textbook on comprehensive school physical activity programs (CSPAP).
Dr. Webster is a research fellow with the Society of Health and Physical Educators – America (SHAPE America) and was an invited research fellow at Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan and at the University of Newcastle in Australia. With respect to service, Dr. Webster is as an associate editor for the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, was a guest editor for a special issue on school-based physical activity interventions with the Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and he has reviewed for 44 academic journals. He chairs the subcommittee on research for the Active Schools Research Alliance and formerly served as chair of the CSPAP Special Interest Group (SIG) with SHAPE America, which he initiated.
Dr. Webster’s other notable service contributions include providing many professional development workshops to in-service teachers and serving as a Ph.D. program coordinator, department chair, and associate dean for research while at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Webster has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including twice winning the Innovative Paper Award from the CSPAP SIG with SHAPE America, being invited to give the Scholar Lecture for the Curriculum and Instruction SIG with SHAPE America, and twice being nominated for SHAPE America’s Daryl Siedentop Lecture.
